Hunger in Florida: Closer than you Think

Hunger doesn’t always look the way you expect. It’s not just empty cupboards or skipped meals—it’s quiet stress at the grocery store, stretching a budget that’s already too thin, and making impossible choices between rent, medicine, and food.

In Florida, one in seven people face food insecurity. That means over three million Floridians—including working parents, seniors on fixed incomes, and even college students—struggle to afford enough nutritious food. Even more heartbreaking: One in six children in our state live in households that don’t always know where their next meal is coming from.

These numbers aren’t just statistics. They represent real lives. They might include your neighbor, your child’s classmate, or someone you see every day. Hunger is often invisible—but its impact is profound.

At Project Share, we believe in the power of community to change lives. Through our monthly food distributions at 165 Emporia Rd., Pierson, we are working to ensure that no one in one of Florida’s most vulnerable communities goes hungry.

We can’t do this alone. You can help by volunteering every second Wednesday of the month at our food distributions at 165 Emporia Rd., Pierson. Volunteers are needed 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. We have a job for everyone and all are welcome.

You have the power to make a difference. Every small act adds up—and together, we can turn compassion into action.  Be part of the solution! See you at the next food distribution on Wednesday, Aug. 13, or donate today at https://projectshareflorida.org/.
